Blowin’ In The Wind

Blowin’ In The Wind

Deb

It is always a lot of fun exploring a new idea with a client. Deb had already been in a couple of time for boudoir and nude portraits and wanted something different this time.

You never know where you will get inspiration. Mark had seen some interesting images of a fashion shoot in a photography magazine. The model was holding onto a parachute that seemed to be blowing in the wind behind her. Mark loved the feeling of movement and texture the light fabric gave to the image. Could we get a similar effect without a parachute or wind machine?

Enter the magic of Photoshop and energetic assistants! A colorful length of fabric, around ten feet long, was grasped by Deb and the remainer was flung into the air behind her by a helper when Mark said “Go!”

Anywhere from 30 to 40 shots were taken, just concentrating on capturing the movement and flare of the fabric. Deb was posed in a flattering position that she, more or less, held while the fabric was tossed up and out for the many shots.

Afterwards, the best fabric shots with the best movements were cut out from the background. Deb chose her favourite pose and the fabric images were blended together to make a huge, billowing cloud of color behind her.

The final image was given some extra saturation and softness to make it pop and it was ready for her wall. She loved it! She said that she felt ready to soar whenever she gazed at that image and it became one of her favourites.

Colette

Colette wanted a unique gift for her husband. He travelled a lot and she wanted to remind him what he had at home!

She had been in before and did some beautiful boudoir and nude images for a calendar for him and she wanted to continue with the magic.

After shooting some enticing and risqué images for a magazine idea she had, Mark suggested we try some flying fabric photos.

Among the lingerie that she had brought with her was a beautiful piece of blue and gold satin that fit the bill. As she posed nude in the canyon set the fabric was tossed into the air by Mark’s assistant.

f The best images of the fabric were Photoshopped together and added to her favorite pose.

The lingerie and nude images were for her husband but the flying fabric image was just for her. Colette loved that image for its teasing yet modest feel.  She says she feels like a butterfly looking at that print; beautiful, ephemeral and one with nature.

Natu

They were so excited to be welcoming their new baby soon. Natu wanted to showcase her beautiful, round belly and we were happy to help her achieve her vision. After posing in a lovely red dress and in an outfit from her African heritage she decided she wanted something different and unique, as one-of-a-kind as she was.

Mark suggested our blowing fabric idea. After looking at some samples she readily agreed. With her husband helping throw the fabric in the air, Mark captured a set of images of Natu’s gleaming skin and pregnant tummy that she loved.

After the usual (!) Photoshop magic ,an ethereal wall image was created for them. Another bit of magic was giving them the option to change the fabric color to blue if they were having a boy. The color even matches her toenails!
